Cadens is a pioneer in the application of additive manufacturing to the production of small, low head hydropower systems. Hydropower offers the lowest cost of electricity across all forms of fossil fuel-based generation and renewable energy sources. Hydro is more reliable and predictable than wind or solar and can provide value grid services to support intermittent renewables. A particular interest to Cadens is the development of environmentally compatible technologies for turbine generators and hydropower plant design. We have a low-head hydropower research facility, the Rome Mill, located in Sullivan, WI, to test, develop, demonstrate and deploy small capacity, low-head turbine systems. We combine CAD-driven, additive manufacturing and modern power electronics to develop rapid design-build, fit-for-purpose hydroelectric technologies that are portable, cost-optimized, modular, flexible and sustain vital stream functions across the entire facility.
